One Year Ago Today
Well, one year ago today I went in the hospital to have Gastric Bypass Surgery. I have to say, now, that it was the best decision I have ever made for myself and my life. I could not be happier or healthier.
One year ago I took this picture with my surgeon:
Today I took this picture with my surgeon:
It's odd because I look at these pictures and I KNOW I look totally different! I dont FEEL that much different or look that much different in the mirror when I look but looking at the comparison pictures REALLY lets me see how far I've come. It's been a long road with a lot of puking and a lot of emotions but every bit of it is and was worth it.
So the One Year stats are this: I weigh 163lbs and my BMI is a nice normal 24.8. In one year I have lost 137lbs and did have a BMI high of 48.7.
I want to lose another 13 pounds as my goal weight is 150lbs but if that were to never happen I would be more than fine with that. I'm happy at my current weight. I know I will lose a few pounds after plastic surgery anyway so that helps a bit too.
So as for the appointment, everything went well as usual except my Vitamin D is low and I need to start taking that again for a few weeks until I can get more time in the sun. Also my Vitamin B12 is low so I had to get another shot today as well as needing them for the next two months as well. I also have to take B12 orally again for the next few months everyday as well. It seems like I will be needing to take B12 everyday for the rest of my life because I am just not getting what I need with the foods I am eating. I guess it's not a horrible thing and it could be worse but still... annoying just the same!
The other thing I did today was get on the "Metabolism" machine. I had to sit and breathe normally into a tube that was connected to a machine that measures the carbon dioxide that you breathe out and somehow figures out what your resting rate metabolism is. Mine is now very fast but I really wish I would have done one in the beginning to see how it changed. I KNOW it had to have been very low to begin with. At any rate, it was very high and if I were to spend my day sitting in a chair all day right now, just breathing I would burn 2030 calories. I definitely do NOT just sit in a chair all day since I have an almost 2 year old running around. The report also told me the amount of calories I should be getting to lose and maintain my weight. Basically I want to stay at about 1600 calories a day to maintain and stay under that to lose. I do not think I eat close to 1600 calories a day but then again, some days I might eat more than that! Basically I am burning up everything I put in my mouth so thats a good thing!! At least I know I dont have to worry about gaining weight unless I really screw up! Trust me, I have no plans on doing that!! I'm enjoying people I dont know saying "I want to be thin like you" hahahahahahha If they only knew what I went through to get here!!!
Well thats about it, I asked the Dr about sleep aides and I can take them with no problems so I'm going to make an appointment to see my primary Dr so I can get some help with that and to get my B12 shots. Though I might want to just run into Dr. Holovers office to get the B12 shots since now that I am one year out I dont seem them agian for 3 months! I'm going to miss them!!
My new Dr visits are now every three months for 6 months and then I go again 6 months later (I'll be 2 yrs out then) and after that I go once a year - as long as I understood that right. Anyway, I'll be going every three months now.
Oh and I talked to them about the whole baby issue and was told as long as my kidney stones are under control and we get my blood work all straightened out that it shouldnt be a big issue if I got pregnant. So... basically if it happens now, it happens... if not it will when it's meant to!
Ok I think I'm done writing away here and I will be here periodically to update. It's been a hell of a year and a roller coaster ride but worth it! Good luck to all of you new GB patients and Keep up the good work to those of you who've done the deed!

I couldn't be MORE PROUD OF YOU, and more AMAZED at how gorgeous you look! My whole life I've known you, and I was always the "skinny" one----and now you are smaller than me!! I know it's been a rough ride, but you will live LONGER, HEALTHIER, and HAPPIER now!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!
OMG Michelle you look fantastic, this year has seemed to fly by and you have done so amazingly well.
I just had to say well done!
