Passing Me By

On May 2, 2006 I had Gastric Bypass Surgery. In this journal I will be telling of my ups and downs, the good and the bad. Please be warned that this blog may contain very personal things about me as well as some in depth descriptions of many things. If this is something you may not be able to handle, please do not read my blog.

6 Months Post-Op

A BUCK NINETY FIVE!!! :)

Well, had my 6 Month Post-Op appointment with Dr. H today. I weighed in at 195lbs, thats 105lbs lost forever! The appointment went very well and Dr. H was pleased with my weight loss, I am down 10lbs from last month. I had my 6 month blood work done and everything looked really good except my B12 and my Vitamin D, both were quite low. I now have to get B12 shots once a week for the next 4 weeks and then once a month for two months after that. I also have to take a B12 supplement (1000mcg) once a day. I am going to be taking a Vitamin D supplement as well (1000 IU) three times a day. That added to my Calcium supplement three times a day, my multi-vitamin twice a day, my Prevacid once a day, my Effexor and my Wellbutrin once a day as well. In other words... I take A LOT of pills a day!!! hahahahaha

Word of advice to ANYone who recently had or who is thinking about having surgery, TAKE YOUR SUPPLEMENTS!!!!!!! EVERYDAY!!!! I only started taking mine a few months after surgery and I probably could have prevented myself from having to get these shots and all. Don't do what I did, it is imperative that you take your supplements.

Just so the world knows what happens when you have low B12: Vitamin B12 is what keeps your nerves doing what they are supposed to be doing!! If your B12 gets low, you begin having tingling in your extremeties (Hands & Feet), get lightheaded and the neurons in your brain begin to deteriorate. It can get so bad that you basically would look like a drunk barely being able to walk around. If it is not caught in time this stuff can be irreversible. In other words, take your damn supplements or you will be messed up forever!

Vitamin D isnt AS bad... if it's low your bones start to get all nasty and brittle and well... you get it!

So the only other thing I talked with Dr. H about was my belly button... I'm going to put a pic here of it so you all know what I'm talking about. ***WARNING*** it's graphic so if you get queasy, dont scroll down and look! Anyway, this right here is proof that people who have Gastric Bypass Surgery need to have a tummy tuck after losing all this weight so quickly. Ok here is the pic... it's nasty and painful and sometimes it's so raw it bleeds. I have a prescription powder that I put on it but I need to figure out another way to keep it dry and the skin from rubbing on itself... if anyone has any ideas, let me know!!!
